Frank Carlier. Musician, Songwriter, Guitar Coach...
Frank took up the guitar at the age of 9 after being inspired by the Beatles.
The following year he also took up the trombone and was active in both band and choir all through middle and high school.
At the age of 13 Frank had to obtain his "Cabaret Card" when he started to play professionally in local bands and summer stock theaters.
Frank also studied at WVU fine arts programs during the summers concentrating in music theory and performing in jazz bands, concert band and brass choir during his summers through high school.
His sophomore year, he started his studies with the jazz great Charlie Burwinkle.
His senior year he won "Outstanding Musician" at the "Reading Jazz Festival" was one of the featured vocal soloists in Handle's Messiah and was music director of the rock opera "Jesus Christ Super Star."
He then went on to study music in college at West Virginia on a full music scholar ship.
After college, feeling a need of a change, Frank served in United States Navy working in the submarine force.
After being honorably discharged, he became very active in the Charleston, South Carolina musical scene.
He performed and toured in both local and regional acts covering many musical styles such as jazz, blues, rock, top 40, country, bluegrass, and even gypsy and traditional Greek music.
As a multi instrumentalist he also served as "musician in residence" at 3 recording studios doing writing, arranging and performing duties. He also worked in TV, movies and commercials.
Frank maintained a huge student clientele despite his heavy performance schedule, due to his love of teaching
Frank had the honor of being inducted into the Lowcountry Music Hall of Fame. Class of 2022.
He is considered one of South Carolina's finest guitar teachers and has literally taught thousands of students from beginner to amateur to professional. He opened Carlier School of Guitar & Music in April 2007, to devote his full time to teaching music.
Even though Frank's main passion is his teaching, he still performs on a somewhat limited basis with The Frank Carlier Band.
His recordings [which he calls his hobby] have had worldwide airplay.
His CDs "Born Again" "Hellbound" and most recently "Americana 101" have all posted highly in the Euro-Americana radio market with Americana 101 reaching as high as number 3.
